Both masks provide instant conversation, but diamond provides more instant conversation than what gummy gives. Diamond mask gives 2x more capacity than gummy and capacity is very important in that stage of the game because it prevents you from filling up fast.
Gummy mask does way better than diamond mask thanks to the lots of quests that require collecting goo. Also, due to the fact that you have a mixed hive (which is good), it will work with any field color, while diamond mask doesn't quite work with red fields.
