Hijikata Toshizō (土方 歳三, May 31, 1835 – June 20, 1869) was a Japanese warrior. As Vice-Commander (副長, Fukucho) of the Shinsengumi, he resisted the Meiji Restoration and fought to his end.
Toshizō Hijikata (土方歳三 Hijikata Toshizou) is the Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi and the main male protagonist of the anime series as Chizuru's canon love interest. He is Kondou 's longtime friend who helped him form the Shinsengumi in Kyoto.
