Afew years ago, Levin woman Tania Turipa was struggling as a solo mother of six children and turned to Te Awahou Kai in Foxton for help with feeding her family.
Currently we run a ‘freestore’ on a Wednesday under the name ‘Hope Kete’. Hope Kete is open from 2pm to 4pm and provides an opportunity for good quality rescued and donated food to be passed onto community members in need. People from all over Levin come and receive whatever is available on the day, to take home.

Jul 24, 2023 · Lake said they were supported by a bakery in Levin, Just Zilch and Hope Kete. “This seems to tide us over until we need to stock up again. “But we would love to see more people come on board. Anyone with excess food or household items can drop them to us, and we need anyone with connections to bakeries or cafes.”
