There are two general approaches for playing as an Impostor:
•Rush Attack: This strategy quickly and aggressively kills, however you will look more suspicious and be more likely to be voted. This approach is more effective when the lobby you're playing in has a high impostor count and a low task count and kill cooldown.
•Slow Play: Instead of performing a rush attack, this method prioritizes getting trusted by the Crewmates and keeping up your pretense. This approach is more effective when the lobby you're playing in has a low impostor count and a high task count and kill cooldown.
Note that if you play with more than one Impostor, the other impostor(s) may interfere with the below.
•Rat out your "teammate(s)" - In a game with multiple Impostors, and you are discovered to be An Impostor, claim that random Crewmates are the other Impostors. For example, Green and Blue may be the other Impostor, but you may tell everyone else before your ejection that for example, Pink and Yellow are your teammates. The others may believe this and vote them out, which can be helpful for your surviving teammates. This strategy might not work as some players are not gullible. It also will not work if you are the last surviving Impostor (in which case you should do everything you can to not be ejected) or a Crewmate you claim is An Impostor has completed a visual task in front of others.
•Group Up - In a game of 2 or 3 Impostors, group up with your teammate(s) to get an alibi. That way, when you are accused, you can use them to back you up. Make sure to read their cues — if they close the doors to MedBay and then stand on the scanner, they may be trying to tell you they are "scanning", which could be useful later on for deflecting accusations.
•Drop Kill - On maps with Dropship or Launchpad, fake a task before making a kill. Afterward, Sabotage something (preferably the lights) and run away. Be careful not to run into anyone who may check for this, or they will likely accuse you.
•Scan Kill - If a Crewmate claims they have Submit Scan on The Skeld during a meeting, get everyone to go with them, giving you a trust with the player. The next round, Sabotage the lights until your Kill cooldown hits zero. While the crew mates are in MedBay, sabotage the lights and drastically kill someone (Not the person scanning). This will think the person who attempted to scan killed the player, and they will most likely lead to their Ejection.
•Death Chamber - On The Skeld or Polus, head to Admin and use the Admin map to find a solo Crewmate. Go to Records or Cockpit if on The Airship. Immediately lock the room they are in via Door Sabotage and get in as fast as possible, checking if the cameras are on before venting. Secure the kill before Sabotaging lights and venting out to fix them. This eliminates suspicion because the body won't be found until the lights are fixed, and no one can confirm you were in the room where the kill occurred.
•Note that a room to kill in for this strategy is only valid if it has both doors and a vent. A fast lock is crucial to avoid a second Crewmate entering the targeted room. If this happens, you'll be caught venting in. Learn vent links before trying this strategy; it greatly improves the chance of success.
- Vote judiciously. Avoiding suspicion is just as important as netting crafty kills in Among Us. The easiest way to raise eyebrows is aggressively voting when there's no solid evidence against a player you want out.
- Choose your victims wisely. Going for an easy kill with no witnesses is typically advised. However, as a game progresses, there might be crewmates you want to make top-priority targets and others that you want to spare to help you blend in.
- Vent body camp. As an imposter, you can use vents to quickly move around any of the maps on Among Us. These fast-travel locations are only useable by killers and are an instant giveaway if you're caught jumping in or out of one, but they can be used for some sinister tactics like vent body camping.
- Crowd kill. If you're struggling to find an isolated crewmate, go for a crowd kill by gathering at least four crewmates in one area. That can be done by sabotaging either lights or comms on any of the maps in Among Us.
