Apr 14, 2017 · Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary. It’s taken over 50 years since his death for an authorized documentary on the musician John Coltrane. While I reckon that there were certain logistical hurdles to get over, I would not find the wait surprising even had that not been the case. Coltrane is a very big subject.

It is the day after Thanksgiving here in the States and one of the things I am grateful for is the new John Coltrane documentary Chasing Trane, written and directed by John Scheinfeld. I was fortunate to see this film on the closing night of DOC NYC, the New York documentary film festival.
On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 73% based on 37 reviews, with an average rating of 7.2/10. On Metacritic , the film has a score of 69 out of 100, based on 13 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".
