Use of Albanian and Serbian flags in Kosovo. The Albanian flag remains popular with Kosovo Albanians. Serbia does not recognize the 2008 secession of Kosovo and considers it a United Nations-governed entity within its sovereign territory, the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, as defined by the 2006 Constitution of Serbia.

2 days ago · A landlocked country, Kosovo is bordered by Serbia to the north and east, North Macedonia to the south, Albania to the west, and Montenegro to the northwest. Kosovo, about the same size as Jamaica or Lebanon , is the smallest country in the Balkans.
However, ethnic Albanians living in Kosovo were eventually allowed to fly the Albanian flag. Kosovo remained part of Serbia following the dissolution of socialist Yugoslavia in the early 1990s, but a separatist movement in the province gained strength throughout the decade.
In April 2013 Kosovo and Serbia reached a milestone agreement that granted a degree of autonomy to ethnic Serbs in northern Kosovo in exchange for de facto recognition of Kosovo’s authority in the region. Serbian negotiators stopped short of recognizing Kosovo’s independence, however.
In Serbia, a formal distinction is made between the eastern and western areas of the country; the term Kosovo (Косово) is used for the eastern part of Kosovo centred on the historical Kosovo Field, while the western part of the territory of Kosovo is called Metohija (Albanian: Dukagjin).

Symbols for the new country were adopted by the Parliament of Kosovo on the same day. The flag of Kosovo is blue with a yellow geographical map of Kosovo and six white five-pointed stars forming an arch above it.

Serbia's influence was manifested through the presence of the Serbian flag in Kosovo. Kosovo was included in Yugoslavia, which was ruled by communists after World War II.
