Registration for All New York State Attorneys NEW YORK–Chief Administrative Joseph A. Zayas and First Deputy Chief Administrative Judge Norman St. George today announced an amendment to Parts 118.1 and 118.3 of the Rules of the Chief Administrator, mandating online registration for all New York attorneys, effective December 1, 2023.
The Department issues written certification of licensure to provide a licensee’s official information on the basis of licensure for a variety of purposes. The Department also issues written verification of licensure confirming an individual is licensed in NYS and their registration status.
There are over 300,000 attorneys admitted in New York State, who are required to register with the Office of Court Administration of NYS Unified Court System. Most NYS attorneys are working in law firms.
