  1. Laramie Mountains. The Laramie Mountains are a range of moderately high peaks on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains in the U.S states of Wyoming and Colorado. The range is the northernmost extension of the line of the ranges along the eastern side of the Rockies, and in particular of the higher peaks of the Front Range directly to the south.

    • Libby Flats Observation Point. The Libby Flats Observation Point is located in the heart of the Snowy Range Mountains, which are part of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest.
    • Medicine Bow Peak. It’s true that accessing this scenic overlook requires some effort on your part (scaling a mountain, to be exact), but the views are well worth it.
    • The Summit & Headquarters Trail. Hiking along the Headquarters Trail is another great way to access some amazing panoramic views in the Laramie area. To get there you’ll need to depart from the Summit Trailhead near the Sherman Summit Rest Area and Visitors Center, which sits about 10 miles east of Laramie off I-80.
    • Jelm Mountain / Wyoming Infrared Observatory. While definitely somewhat off the beaten path, the summit of Jelm Mountain is located about 25 miles southwest of Laramie and is worth a trip if you’re in the area.

  3. Wheatland Reservoir #3. Renowned for producing both large trout and walleye, Wheatland #3 Reservoir boasts over 4,700 acres of boating and fishing. When full, it has a maximum depth of 50 feet and an average depth of 15 feet. It is best fished during the season, March and October, but can be good year-round with ice fishing in winter.

  6. Laramie Peak Area. Area Status: Open. The Laramie Peak area is located in east central Wyoming, stretching from southeast of Casper to west of Wheatland. This portion of the Medicine Bow National Forest is part of the Laramie Range and is dominated by the jagged 10,274 foot crest of Laramie Peak, and is managed by the Douglas Ranger District.
