Feb 27, 2020 · When Manilow covered the song in 1974, the title was changed to “Mandy,” in order to avoid confusion with the Looking Glass hit. Massachusetts-based rocker Sarah Borges specifically references “Brandy” in her tune “Same Old 45s,” a song featured on her 2005 album, Silver City.
It tells the story of a barmaid named Brandy, who works in a port town and is admired by many of the sailors who frequent the establishment. The song’s catchy melody and sing-along chorus make it easy to see why it was a hit, reaching number one on the Billboard charts in 1972.
