Sep 30, 2022 · Lorenzo’s oil is an experimental treatment for ALD. Studies have shown that, in some children, Lorenzo’s oil lowered the risk of neurological symptoms developing in children who do not have any symptoms yet (asymptomatic). However, it is not effective in children who already display neurological symptoms of the disorder.
Lorenzo’s oil is taken orally and is generally well tolerated, although moderate platelet reduction and elevation of liver transaminases have been observed. From the first studies investigating the role of this mixture in ALD, it was very apparent that it did not alter the progression of the brain disease in affected individuals.
