The performances are extraordinary. Marvin has very seldom been better; he leaves in the toughness of his usual screen character, but he also reveals a lot of depth. He's often directed wastefully; directors want him for his presence and authority, but don't really seem to want a performance from him.

Monte Walsh is the debut feature of cameraman-turned-director William A.Fraker. It stars Lee Marvin (Monte Walsh) & Jack Palance (Chet Rollins) as two ageing cowboys who find that the era of the cowpoke is coming to an end; and that work for them is now very hard to come by.
Mar 5, 2016 · Monte Walsh is a sad, depressing film interspersed with a few flashes of humor. It also includes an out-of-place opening theme song sung by Mama Cass and a jarring climax. With Lee Marvin and Jack Palance starring, the acting is of course great.
