Pope Pius XI (Italian: Pio XI), born Ambrogio Damiano Achille Ratti (Italian: [amˈbrɔ:dʒo daˈmja:no aˈkille ˈratti]; 31 May 1857 – 10 February 1939), was the Bishop of Rome and supreme pontiff of the Catholic Church from 6 February 1922 to 10 February 1939.

Ambrogio Damiano Achille Ratti was born to Francesco, the owner of silk factory, and Teresa Ratti and grew up among five siblings: Carlo, Fermo, Edoardo, Camilla and Cipriano.
