Racer X (initially The Masked Racer) (覆面レーサー, Fukumen Rēsā, lit. the Masked Racer) is a frequent recurring character in Speed Racer's adventures. Racer X drives the number 9 car, the Shooting Star.
The Shooting Star is Racer X's car, colored bright yellow with a black front bumper and numbered 9 on the hood and sides. The car's engine is located in the back, and it is a very agile machine, often displaying abilities akin to and above those of the Mach 5 .
