Your REAL ID will retain the same expiration date as your original license. For domestic travel, a U.S. passport or a REAL ID card is acceptable. For international travel, a U.S. passport is necessary. For additional information about passports, visit the U.S. Department of State, email npic@state.gov or call 877-487-2778.

Your current Illinois driver’s license or ID card (DL/ID) will be accepted at airports until May 7, 2025. We are providing you with the choice either to obtain a REAL ID card or to keep a standard card.

Valid Illinois DL/IDs will be accepted by the TSA to board domestic flights until May 7, 2025. After that date, you must have a REAL ID DL/ID, U.S. passport or passport card, military ID or other federally approved document to board domestic flights.
