Dec 30, 2004 · The violin is by Samuel Brooks and numbered 181 (so not just a one-off) and I can only suppose that he was 'remembering' this ancient tradition. 'Fiddlecollector' should comment here as he has owned several Pamphilons, Urquharts etc and also understands that the old methods survived much longer in the provinces than the big centers.
