- Johnny Rotten. Johnny Rotten no longer goes by his stage name but his real name, John Lydon, which he has used since he left the group in January 1978.
- Sid Vicious. Sid Vicious was the last member to join the Sex Pistols, but his story is one that doesn't extend much further than the band itself. The bass guitarist died of a heroin overdose at the age of 21 on February 2, 1979, a day after he was released on bail after becoming the prime suspect in his girlfriend Nancy Spungen's death.
- Steve Jones. Steve Jones' autobiography Lonely Boy: Tales From a Sex Pistol is largely the basis for Pistol and he was heavily involved in the creation of the show.
- Paul Cook. Paul Cook, like Jones, worked closely with the cast and crew of Pistol to help them recreate the Sex Pistols. Jacob Slater, who plays Cook, shared with Newsweek that he found it "surreal" to be able to meet and work with his real-life counterpart.
