    • Spider-Men Create Their Villain. Unwittingly, Spider-Man often ends up playing a part in the creation of his foes. Whether it's the accident that transforms Dr. Otto Octavius into Doctor Octopus, or the misjudged actions that lead to the birth of the Green Goblin, Spider-Man's involvement in their origins adds a complex layer to their antagonistic relationships.
    • The Symbiote. The story invariably introduces a parasitic alien symbiote, enhancing Spider-Man's abilities before taking a darker turn. More importantly, the symbiote makes the person wearing the Spider-Mantle listen to his more violent impulses, leading to a terrifying version of Spider-Man that scares both heroes and villains.
    • The Sinister Six. There's always a moment when Spider-Man's villains unite against him, forming a group known as The Sinister Six. This event usually marks a high-stakes storyline where Spider-Man must simultaneously take on his most formidable enemies.
    • Short Retirement. In every Spider-Man narrative, there comes a time when the person behind the mask decides to hang up his suit. Exhausted by the demands of his double life, he briefly retires, only to return when the call to duty becomes too great.
  4. Spider-Man is a comic book character, created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. He first appeared Amazing Fantasy #15 (August, 1962). The issue contained his origin story.
