Apr 14, 2003 · Stephan Zanter, one of Bloom's co-workers at 3M in Woodbury, pleaded guilty last week to killing the 37-year-old on Nov. 2, 1989. Zanter told police he hit Bloom repeatedly with a hammer in his Eagan home.
Zanter's wife immediately clarified that her husband meant that they both had hoped that Bloom would not be found dead. Zanter then began to sob and to moan, and he eventually curled into a "fetal position" on the floor.

Investigators also searched Zanter's briefcase and discovered 25 photographs of women wearing shorts and swimsuits in boating or vacation settings. One of the investigators immediately recognized Zanter and Bloom's coworker, Donna Sommerfeldt-Bilicke, in many of the photographs.
