Thérèse Raquin [teʁɛz ʁakɛ̃] is an 1868 novel by French writer Émile Zola, first published in serial form in the literary magazine L'Artiste in 1867. It was Zola's third novel, though the first to earn wide fame.

Therese Raquin is reserved and withdrawn Parisian woman forced to marry the sickly Camille. A meeting with Laurent, her husband's childhood friend, draws her out of her shell, and the pair soon embarks on a passionate and all-consuming affair.
Thérèse Raquin is a story of a young woman forced into smaller and smaller boxes until she lashes out with devastating results. It's startling and sad to see how relevant that mid-nineteenth century storyline remains in 2015.
