A decent and watchable final American film for Laurel and Hardy. planktonrules 24 May 2008. Of all the six films Laurel and Hardy made for Fox Studios, THE BULLFIGHTERS is probably the second best of the lot and as such wasn't a bad way for the team to finish their last American film.
May 18, 2015 · The Bullfighters, Laurel & Hardy’s final film for Twentieth-Century Fox, was once described by L&H biographer Randy Skretvedt as “the one Fox film of theirs I can watch without wincing too much.” In terms of the L&H/Fox films which preceded this one, that makes it a masterpiece.

Plot. Private detectives Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy embark on a journey from their native Peoria, Illinois to Mexico City with the intent of apprehending the notorious criminal Hattie Blake, widely recognized as "Larceny Nell".
Instead they revert to wordplay and geriatric slapstick, neither of which come off as convincing as the get mistaken for bullfighters in Mexico City. There’s still some sparks here, but it’s a salient look at an act which long since ran on fumes and nostalgia, struggling and failing to find the energy needed to make things work.

Review by JamesLNeibaur ★★★★½. This one was made later in Laurel and Hardy's career (it was their last film but one, and their final American movie), so they are older, but no less funny. Stan and Ollie are private detectives who go to Mexico in order to capture an elusive female criminal.
