His first venture to the outside world finds him Esmeralda, a kind-hearted and fearless Romani woman who openly stands up to Frollo's tyranny.
At the urging of his gargoyle pals, Quasimodo leaves the solitary safety of his Notre Dame tower and ventures out to find his first true friend, the gypsy beauty Esmeralda, who entrusts him with a secret.
Quasimodo, the deaf hunchback and bell ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral, is crowned the King of Fools until Frollo catches up to him and takes him back to the church. Esmeralda is caught by a guard and seeks safety in Notre Dame.
