Season 4: 1982–83. When Melanie's mother comes for a surprise visit, Trapper learns that Melanie has kept their divorce a secret from her for the last six years. Gonzo suggests that a doctor should work as a nurse for a week to get a better idea of the problems they are having, and he gets volunteered for the job.
This series brought the character of "Trapper John" from M*A*S*H in as the Chief of Surgery at San Francisco Memorial Hospital. Joining him on the surgical staff was a brilliant young surgeon, G. Alonzo "Gonzo" Gates, who had also served in a MASH unit - in Vietnam.
