Musk's Trump donations a 'game changer' -wealth advisor
Reuters Videos48 minutes agoSTORY: Musk's whopping monetary commitment to the former president was reported by the Wall Street Journal on Monday. "Right now, [Musk is] very much committed to Trump," said Conzo. "If they stay on the same page, great. I think either one could jump off that page at any moment. That's what makes them very polarizing figures." Meanwhile, Trump's choice of former San Francisco venture capitalist J.D. Vance for a running mate raised the hopes of Silicon Valley conservatives that they stand to gain from having a fellow "tech bro" within reach of the White House for the first time. But despite his background, Vance has said that large tech companies have too much influence and called for Google to be broken up. That jibes with the Trump administration's investigations into Meta, Amazon, Apple and Google over alleged antitrust violations, but may not sit well with Trump's overall pro-business policies. "If JD goes against him," said Conzo, "I think he's gonna run up against the brick wall, as many other people have - right, wrong or indifferent."

- 2:24Trump's ex-rivals show unity at Republican conventionReuters VideosSTORY: "Donald Trump has my strong endorsement. Period." Donald Trump's former rivals for the Republican presidential nomination came together to endorse his candidacy at the party's convention on Tuesday, in a strong display of unity, three days after the former president survived an assassination attempt. Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley had described Trump as unfit for office during her campaign. But on day two of the convention, she urged her supporters to back him over Democratic President Joe Biden "for the sake of our nation." "You don't have to agree with Trump 100% of the time to vote for him." While conservative Florida governor Ron DeSantis, among the last to stay in the nomination race against Trump, spoke proudly of his state's strong support for the party. "Due to bold leadership, the left is in retreat. Freedom reigns supreme. The woke mind virus is dead, and Florida is a solid Republican state.” Trump applauded alongside his running mate, Senator J.D. Vance, who was himself formerly a fierce Trump critic, once even comparing him to Hitler. The show of group harmony appeared to be aimed at contrasting with the Democratic Party, which is divided over whether 81-year-old Biden should drop his reelection bid amid fresh questions about his mental acuity. When it came to policy, the evening's speeches took on an angrier tone. "We are facing an invasion on our southern border." Many were centered on the theme of law and order, and infused with Trump's anti-immigrant rhetoric. The former president's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, who co-chairs the Republican National Committee, then closed the night with a shift in tone. "We, as Americans, must always remember: There is more that unites us than divides us." However, following Saturday's assassination attempt, voter fears about the polarized state of the nation appear to have deepened. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday found that 80% of voters - with similar shares among Republicans and Democrats - agreed "the country is spiraling out of control" in the wake of the shooting.14 hours ago

- 1:53"We have to go with Donald Trump": Nikki HaleyReuters VideosSTORY: :: Date: July 16, 2024 :: Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin :: "We have to go with Donald Trump": Nikki Haley endorses her 2024 rival and calls for unity :: Nikki Haley, Former South Carolina Governor "I'll start by making one thing perfectly clear: Donald Trump has my strong endorsement, period." "If we have four more years of Biden, or a single day of Harris, our country will be badly worse off. For the sake of our nation, we have to go with Donald Trump." "We should acknowledge that there are some Americans who don't agree with Donald Trump 100% of the time. I happen to know some of them. And I want to speak to them tonight. My message to them is simple. You don't have to agree with Trump 100% of the time to vote for him. Take it from me. I haven't always agreed with President Trump. But we agree more often than we disagree." "I'm here tonight because we have a country to save. And a unified Republican Party is essential for saving her." Haley, who had described Trump as unelectable and unfit for office during her campaign, nevertheless urged her supporters to vote for him over Democratic President Joe Biden "for the sake of our nation." Trump smiled and applauded from his box in the arena, where he sat alongside the running mate whose selection he unveiled on Monday (July 15), U.S. Senator J.D. Vance, himself a former fierce Trump critic who has become a staunch supporter. The show of harmony was intended to contrast with the Democratic Party, which has spent weeks mired in intraparty tensions over whether Biden, 81, should abandon his reelection bid after his halting June 27 debate performance against Trump, 78, raised fresh questions about his age and mental acuity.16 hours ago
