Royal Air Force Methwold or more simply RAF Methwold is a former Royal Air Force station located 2.1 miles (3.4 km) north east of Feltwell, Norfolk and 10.9 miles (17.5 km) north west of Thetford, Norfolk, England.

The steeple of St. George’s Church, standing on high ground in the village centre, provided a marker for many returning RAF and USAF aircraft during the war. Methwold village has been sited carefully to take advantage of a location which is near the edge of both the fens and the brecks.

RAF Methwold was officially closed down in June 1958, the land being returned to its former owners or their families. In the 1960’s much of the concrete runways were broken up and the area returned largely to agriculture.
The explosion tossed one truck high in the air and it landed in a nearby meadow, some windows were broken in Bungay (8 miles away) and at Southwold (15 miles away) shockwaves were experienced. The intensity of the explosion was such, that part of a truck landed in a village about one mile away from the airfield.
