Jul 31, 2020 · Two locks on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway (Tenn-Tom) are now named for Stennis and Whitten. The project received funding in 1970, with construction beginning in 1972. Twelve years later, on December 11, 1984, a dredge finally connected the two rivers.

Jun 15, 2020 · The greatest concentration of evidence for Paleo-Indian occupation is the western valley of the Tennessee River and the Central Basin, particularly along the Cumberland River. Native Americans of the Archaic Period were hunters and gatherers, and their settlements reflect an adaptation to the abundant natural resources of the Tennessee region.
The Tennessee River is formed at the confluence of the Holston and French Broad rivers in present-day Knoxville, Tennessee. From Knoxville, it flows southwest through East Tennessee into Chattanooga before crossing into Alabama.
