This movie is manifestly a work of fact-extrapolated fiction, that can’t be emphasized enough. But while the then-24-year-old Welles is referred to as a “Wunderkind” throughout, the idea that his expertise extended to pharmacopeia is a particularly ostentatious stretch in this film of stretches.
