  1. Feb 1, 2018 · Hungary’s dazzling “On Body and Soul,” one of the year’s most justifiably celebrated foreign-language films, takes that delicate concept and uses it to cast a singularly intoxicating spell.

  2. Our review: Parents say ( 80 ): Kids say ( 209 ): Mature messages about the meaning of life and death may elude younger children, but kids are still likely to enjoy the adorable souls and the laughs in Pixar's thoughtful, vividly animated dramedy. It's difficult to fully explain Soul 's plot, which takes place half on Earth and half in the ...

Soul searching? Soul healing? Or forever a broken soul? If there was ever a year when the world is looking for a little healing for the soul – this is it. Broken souls looking for a reprieve from the dumpster fire year of 2020, it about sums up how we all are currently feeling. Following a chaotic Pixar Onwardrelease, I didn’t find it surprising at...

As the first straight-to-streaming Pixar film (technically Onward did have a short in-theater release), I expected the visuals of Soul to be lacking compared to the big movie screen. However, I still found the animation visually stunning, breathtaking and surprising. Even given the unusual hardships of finishing a movie during a pandemic, Pixar sti...

It’s the most ambitious story trope for Pixar yet. The meaning of life, fulfilling our life’s purpose, living our best lives, leaving a lasting legacy – and all that jazz (pun intended), it’s a story arc with heavy adult messaging told in a lighter, easier to digest Pixar way. Inventive and yet familiar, deep and yet humorous, sad and yet hopeful, ...

Warning: “some language” ahead. Is Pixar’s Soul movie kid friendly? It’s no secret that I am highly skeptical of all MPAA ratings (um hello, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker not disclosing any language?). With film ratings unpredictable these days, PG rating oscillating between Incredibles 2 intense to Christopher Robin calm, having fully disclosed...

Is Soul safe for kids? 1 hour and 40 minutes of heavy life stuff. While rated PG, Pixar’s Soul is a different kind of Pixar film. Not quite as attention holding as Inside Out, not karaoke singing worthy as Coco, or adventure seeking as Up, it’s the most adult-like Pixar film I have ever watched. And I think that plays a huge part in the age recomme...

Every now and then, we need something to wake up our souls. Pixar’s Soul hits deep, hits hard and hits heavy in 2020 – but not quite soul quenching. While the story doesn’t quite hit the mark for Pixar’s high gut-wrenching standards, can we truly expect a movie to answer the all-important question of “what’s the meaning of life” for us? It might be...

  5. Dec 23, 2020 · And “Soul” turns out to be not an exploration of the afterlife but a wondrous whirligig of daily life. “Soul,” a Walt Disney Co. release, is rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America for thematic elements and some language. Running time: 100 minutes. Three and a half stars out of four. ___

  6. An animated PG movie with a 1 hour 40 minute runtime seems like the perfect fit for kids. However, parents need to keep in mind this isn’t your typical Pixar film. My two children, ages 7 and 11 watched SOUL. My 11 year old enjoyed it, but didn’t think it contained enough humor.

  7. Dec 24, 2020 · What age rating is Soul? Soul has been given a PG rating by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), which, of course, indicates Parental Guidance.
