Languages. Tagalog is widely spoken in the region. In Marinduque, Tagalog is spoken with a unique blend of Bicolano and Visayan languages. Aside from Tagalog, there are also other major languages being used by the people in different provinces and localities.

Marinduque has no indigenous groups except Tagalogs, but many descendants of the Asi tribe live in the southern part of the island and they are known to still cling to their roots in Banton.
This is a project initiated by the Indigenous Peoples Education Program of the Region IV-B (MIMAROPA) Division of the Department of Education. The aim of the project is to designorthographies or spelling guides for the non-Tagalog languages spoken in the region.
