My personal recommendation is to only play: Age of Empires II HD (2013 version, because its truest to the original) Age of Mythology (2004 Gold Edition if you can find it, but I guess Extended is okay.) And then I recommend trying different franchises, namely Command and Conquer and StarCraft.

Aug 23, 2021 · AoE1: Mostly historical, there are some things like the Trojan War that were believed to be mythological, but fairly recently historians found out it was probably real,
AoE 1 also has a really spammy AI that can and will send units to attack you on a straight line without giving a second of break. Even the standard games require a lot of walls or it becomes a grinding competition.
• 5 yr. ago. randomfluffypup. Thoughts on Age 1 Meta? Thoughts on how it differs from aoe2? Do games end earlier? Is upping to bronze age (castle age) less important? Seems to be that weaker towers + no garrison makes for faster paced games, but does it make it a more interesting game to spectate?
