That's actually means it's the "original". That's how they wrote they wrote/printed in phonetics prior to 17th c. I think I talked about it here. VV for 'w', u for v, for 'e' it's 'y', f for s, etc. Not just Spanish but true even for alot of W. Europeans (there are English, French and Dutch books from 17th to early 18th that still have that style).
