May 15, 2024 · One of the world's most iconic cinemas, the TCL Chinese Theatre opened as Grauman's Chinese Theatre on May 18, 1927, with the premiere of Cecil B. DeMille's The King of Kings. Thousands of people lined Hollywood Boulevard for the theatre’s grand opening. The theatre opened to the public the following day, on May 19.
Grauman's Chinese was represented in the September 4, 1932 Motion Picture Electrical Parade and Sports Pageant at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Thanks to Michelle Gerdes for sharing the postcard from her collection.

Grauman’s Chinese Theater remains one of the most sought-after locations for Hollywood premieres and was also the venue for the Academy Awards ceremonies between 1944 and 1946.
Not only do these enhancements bring the cherished venue back to the glory days when showman-founder Sid Grauman first opened the theatre, but they will also give the storied movie palace a new lease on life and provide theatre-goers with a much improved, truly world-class movie experience.
