William “Bill/Griv” Grivna, Professor Emeritus, actor, director, author, tai chi instructor and life coach, died July 12, 2022 at Barnes Jewish Hospital. He was 79. Bill taught theater performance for 29 years at SIUE and directed many shows both at SIUE and at professional theaters in St. Louis.
William “Bill” Grivna, of St. Louis, died Tuesday, July 12 at Barnes Jewish Hospital. He was 79. Grivna joined SIUE in September 1977, rising during his tenure from assistant professor to professor. He retired in December 2002 as a professor emeritus in the Department of Theater and Dance.

Grivna, William J. Bill grew up in Nordeast, graduated from Edison High School (President, Class of '61), and received a BA from the University of Minnesota in Theatre in 1965. After some years in California, he returned to finish an MFA from the U before moving to the Greater St. Louis area, where he lived until his unexpected death on July 12.
