Somewhere in Time is a 1980 American romantic fantasy drama film from Universal Pictures, directed by Jeannot Szwarc, and starring Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Plummer. It is a film adaptation of the novel Bid Time Return (1975) by Richard Matheson, who also wrote the screenplay.
What starts out as a conventional melodrama set in a sci-fi/fantasy world, turns into a film about loss and in the 2nd half, Reeve's performance goes from lovestruck handsome gent to a self-destructive broken heart which he accomplishes and, in my opinion, shows a potential which was wasted in unnecessary, shitty sequels to SUPERMAN.
But back to the movie. "Somewhere in Time" stars Christopher Reeve as a Chicago playwright who visits the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and sees a photograph there of an actress who appeared at the hotel in 1912. He is smitten; no, he is obsessed.
