About the Real Estate Tax. The Real Estate Department collects taxes for each of the approximately 220,000 parcels of property within city limits. Property valuation or assessment is conducted by the Assessor's Office every other year (odd numbered). Taxes that remain unpaid after January 1st are subject to interest and penalty.
