Tana Flowers (née Mundkowsky; born June 8, 1982) is the wife of The Killers' frontman, Brandon Flowers. Tana used to work for the American fashion designer, Betsey Johnson. She has also worked as a manager at Urban Outfitters and later worked as a school teacher.
In 2001, they met at the thrift store, Buffalo Exchange, in Las Vegas. Flowers was with Dave Keuning, buying clothes for the band's first gig. He noted, "She worked at Betsey Johnson. She was cooler than me. I believe in fate. She's perfect for me. I knew early on. She's just different, creative, full of life." On their first date, they bonded over Tom Waits' song "Ruby's Arms." Mundkowsky recalled in an interview, "When we came to London, Brandon insisted on eating at a Pizza Express because he had read that The Edge always eats there. On our first date, he took me to an all-night record store, and quizzed me on different artists—everything from Bowie to the Smiths and Leonard Cohen. I passed when I told him I had the import version of a Bowie album." After four years, they married on August 2, 2005, having a small, intimate wedding ceremony in Oahu, Hawaii. They lived in Henderson, Nevada, which is several miles away from Las Vegas, and later in 2018, moved to Park City, Utah. Flowers told a source about the move, "The whole town is tainted for her. I've got these streets and areas that I'm nostalgic about. But to her it might remind her of something different that triggers [her illness]. So I'm leaving my town because it's going to be better for her." They have three sons: Ammon (born July 14, 2007), Gunnar (born July 28, 2009), and Henry (born March 9, 2011).
Tana suffers from complex PTSD, which has resulted in the cancellation of Flowers' tour in August 2015, due to her having suicidal thoughts. He told Q Magazine, "I cancelled that tour, because she got to a point—this is really hard for me to even say the words—but she was having suicidal thoughts. That was as bad as it got." The particular song, "Some Kind of Love," is written for his wife. He shared, "Over the last few years, it has become a big part of our life. The end of the song is me and my boys singing, 'I can't do this alone/We need you at home/There's so much to see/And we know that you're strong.' It's really emotional. I played that for her, and she just sobbed. But I'm proud of that one." The song "Rut" was inspired by Mundkowsky's own struggles and mental health. She said in a post:
