The taxonomy offers a list of categories to identify the depth of learning expected from an activity and selection of verbs to start the learning outcome. These “action words” describe the cognitive processes by which thinkers encounter and work with knowledge.
A statement of a learning objective contains a verb (an action) and an object (usually a noun). The verb generally refers to [actions associated with] the intended cognitive process . The object generally describes the knowledge students are expected to acquire or construct.
Demonstrate an understanding of the facts. Apply knowledge to actual situations. Break down objects or ideas into simpler parts and find evidence to support generalizations. Compile component ideas into a new whole or propose alternative solutions.
