Aug 31, 2021 · In our experience Board Game Arena (BGA) Premium is worth the $24 a year price because of the incredible variety of games, large player base, and user-friendly interface. For many people the free BGA account will still be very valuable but it doesn’t hold up to the premium version.
You can play board games and enjoy most of the functionalities on Board Game Arena for free. Some extra features are only available to our Premium members. For more information on the benefits of becoming a Premium user, please refer to our 'Premium membership' page .
I mostly use BGA for Ticket to Ride, Catan, and Wingspan, all of which are premium games. I don't need a membership to play them of course but I do need one to start a game, and if I'm playing with just me and my friends, someone's gotta have a membership :) I was paying to play during the pandemic.

Premium is very cheap, at only $3/month, or $36/year. Premium games tend to be those that are newer or more sought-after. However, the majority of BGA’s catalog is available for free. Later in this article I discuss about 45 specific games, and only about 25% of them require Premium membership.
