All of our knowledge about pre-Viking Scandinavians comes from DNA analysis and theories, but for an idea of how modern-day Swedes, Danes, and Norwegians look like we can turn to some cold hard data and settle some standard questions right off the bat.
Because of this, Danes share specific physical features with other Scandinavian populations. Most people may be familiar with such typically Scandinavian traits. The majority of Danes are fair-skinned, and a relatively high proportion are thought to have blonde hair and blue eyes.
The Nordic race, which covers Finnish people from Denmark, Sweden, and Norway (among other locations), often comes with pale skin, light-coloured eyes, and a tall stature. While it’s safe to say that not all Scandinavian people are descendants from Vikings, many will be — which may explain why they have so many similar genetic traits.
- Sturdy and Athletic Build. Danish people are known for being tall with long limbs and a slender build. They have an overall athletic build as a result of a general focus on health and wellness in the country.
- Fair Skin. Similar to people who live in other Scandinavian countries such as Sweden, the Danish are typically light skinned. While there could be several reasons for this, including genetics, one of the major causes would be the environment, as the country gets less sunlight every year, especially during winter.
- Blue Eyes. As with nearby nations such as Germany, Denmark has one of the highest populations of blue-eyed people. Some figures place the number of blue-eyed Danes at 60%, ranking them 6th in the world.
- Attractive and Stylish. Danes are characterized as having facial features that are sharp with defined edges. However, this does not apply to everyone because these characteristics largely depend on individual genetics and lifestyle factors.
