- Director Abel Ferrara (MS. 45) effectively captures the sleaziness of the milieu he depicts, yet, though the picture includes an abundance of nudity and violence, it avoids titillating in the manner usually associated with films of this ilk. Instead, he maintains a grim edge to it all, making this an effective, if sometimes slow moving, thriller.
