Fort Sumner is located northeast of the center of De Baca County at 34°28′18″N 104°14′43″W, [11] on the north side of the Pecos River . U.S. Route 60 passes through the village as Sumner Avenue, leading east 61 miles (98 km) to Clovis [12] and west 58 miles (93 km) to Vaughn. [13] .
