Taliesin West is a World Heritage site and National Historic Landmark nestled in the desert foothills of the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona. Wright’s beloved winter home and desert laboratory was established in 1937 and diligently handcrafted over many years.
Jan 1, 2017 · Taliesin was the longest ongoing architectural work of Wright’s career. He never stopped changing it or adding to it. Although twice lost to fire, the residence each time rose again to embrace the brow of the hill with an ineffable aura of magic.
Taliesin features many architectural elements that became Wright’s trademarks: the cantilever roofs, wide windows and an open floor plan. Wright would rebuild the house twice, following significant fire damage in 1914 and 1925.
It was the estate of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and an extended exemplar of the Prairie School of architecture. The expansive house-studio set on the brow of a ridge was begun in 1911; the 600-acre (240 ha) property was developed on land that previously belonged to Wright's maternal family.
