Gerry Bertier (/ ˈ ɡ ɛr i /, pronounced like "Gary"; August 20, 1953 – March 20, 1981) was a high school American football player and Paralympian. He became known for his participation on the 1971 Virginia State Champion football T. C. Williams High School team, and their portrayal in the Disney film Remember the Titans .
This part of the movie Remember the Titans is true. On his way home from a business trip on March 20, 1981, Gerry Bertier's 1980 Oldsmobile was struck by a drunk driver who crossed over the center line. Bertier was pronounced dead two hours later at the University of Virginia Hospital.
