Wright completed his undergraduate education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He earned his J.D.at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
Before becoming a judge for the Sixth Circuit, Wright was judge of the Wrightsville District Courtfrom 2005 to 2008. Prior to that, Wright had a private practice that he had held since the end of 1990, after Judge Perry V. Whitmore retired. Wright had begun his law career as a clerk for Whitmore.
