Hy Zaret (born Hyman Harry Zaritsky; August 21, 1907 – July 2, 2007) was an American Tin Pan Alley [1] lyricist and composer who wrote the lyrics of the 1955 hit "Unchained Melody," one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century.

Jul 3, 2007 · Hy Zaret Biography. Hyman Harry Zaritsky was born on 21 August 1907 in the Brooklyn (New York City) home of his parents, Max and Dora Zaritsky. He grew up in the Bronx (New York City) and graduated from the Bronx High School of Commerce. While in high school, he played roving center for a club football team called the Brownies.
Hy Zaret (1907-2007) was an Oscar-nominated songwriter and lyricist, best known for "Unchained Melody". He also wrote for TV shows, movies, and musicals, and served in the US Army during World War II.
