In the Cut is a 2003 American psychological thriller film written and directed by Jane Campion and starring Meg Ryan, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kevin Bacon. Campion's screenplay is an adaptation of the 1995 novel of the same name by Susanna Moore.
A racy, erotic thriller with a hypersexual plot line, In the Cut centres on Ryan’s character, a schoolteacher, having a torrid affair with a detective. The two meet after Ryan’s character sees a couple performing oral sex in a bathroom and later finds a severed arm in her front garden.
