This park is located in the heart of north-central Minnesota and is one of the most scenic state parks in the area.
Established in 1891, Itasca is Minnesota's oldest State Park. In this 32,000 acre sanctuary, the mighty Mississippi River begins its 2,552 mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico. Points of interest include old growth pine at Preacher's Grove, Peace Pipe Vista, bison kill site and over 100 lakes.
Rent a canoe, kayak, stand-up paddleboard, pontoon or bike at the Itasca Sports Rental (concession). Travel the river route to the Gulf of Mexico: the Mississippi River State Water Trail, Great River Road and Mississippi River Trail Bikeway all begin here!
Cost: Daily - $5 Annual - $25. Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center. Visit Time: 20-60 minutes. Enter Itasca State Park from the south or east entrance and follow the signs to the Visitor Center. Parking is available near the Visitor Center with a short walk to the entrance.

Spend a winter weekend exploring Itasca State Park, where you can visit the headwaters of the Mississippi River State Water Trail. Go for a ski, snowshoe or walk under the pines. Check the park's events calendar to schedule your visit around a candlelight event, guided walk or naturalist program.
The park entry fee is $7.00 in the off season it is on the honor system, pay in the envelope at the entrance. NOTE: The headwaters of the Mississippi is not in the “Headwaters State Forest” it in “Itasca State Park”!
