John Markell was a four-year letter winner and served as an assistant captain as a senior on the Falcon hockey team that went 37-6-2. He was BG's leading scorer as a junior with 61 points after leading the team in goals as a sophomore with 26.

Nov 23, 2015 · John Markell was a hard working left winger with good straight ahead speed. He lacked the size, the creativity and the finish to play regularly at the NHL level. Markell played two very quiet years with the Cornwall Royals of the QMJHL before opting to jump to the American college route in 1975.
In 1995, John Markell was named head coach of the Ohio State University Buckeyes hockey team. He makes his home in Pickerington, Ohio with his wife, Kim, another Cornwall native, and their children.
