John I ( French: Jean sans Peur ; Dutch: Jan zonder Vrees; 28 May 1371 – 10 September 1419) was a scion of the French royal family who ruled the Burgundian State from 1404 until his assassination in 1419.
John the Fearless, Duke of Burgundy, was assassinated on the bridge at Montereau on 10 September 1419 during a parley with the French Dauphin (the future Charles VII of France ), by Tanneguy du Chastel and Jean Louvet, the Dauphin's close counsellors.

Biography: John the Fearless ruled the Duchy of Burgundy 1404-1419 with ruthlessness and cunning and played a major role in the politics of France in the 15th century. He inherited the title after the death of his father Philip the Bold, who was part of the royal house of Valois as the son of French King John II.
With the death of Philip the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, political power shifted away from his son, John the Fearless, to the king's brother, Louis of Orléans, who was rumoured to have had a relationship with the queen. [1]
Jan 27, 2023 · When John the Fearless arrived, assassins ambushed and stabbed him to death in tight quarters on a bridge, with the tacit approval of the dauphin. The dauphin proclaimed himself regent for his incapacitated father, technically considered an act of treason.
