Orphans is a play by Lyle Kessler. It premiered in 1983 at The Matrix Theatre Company in Los Angeles, where it received critical and commercial success and won the Drama-Logue Award. The play has been performed by the Steppenwolf Theatre and on Broadway in 2013.
A former student of Lee Strasberg, Lyle Kessler has served as co-moderator of the The Actors, Writers and Director's Unit of The Actor's Studio West, as well as director of the Sundance Screenwriter's Lab. His Tony-nominated play Orphans recently starred Alec Baldwin and Ben Foster on Broadway.
