With thirty-three varsity sports, MIT supports one of the broadest intercollegiate athletic programs in the world. There are sixteen varsity sports for men, fifteen for women, and two coeducational programs. Approximately 25 percent of undergraduates participate in varsity athletics.

MIT’s Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation offers opportunities for sports instruction and participation at all levels. The Institute supports one of the broadest intercollegiate athletic programs in the world and features one of the nation’s most expansive club programs.
The most successful clubs at MIT include sport taekwondo, triathlon, wrestling, ultimate frisbee, rugby, and cycling. The MIT intramural sports program offers competition in 20 sports of various competition levels, with participation of approximately 3,000 students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

There are more than 30 club sports at MIT, including nationally competitive archery, pistol, and martial arts teams. Meanwhile, there are over 25 intramural sports, within which hundreds of teams organized by MIT community members compete annually at different skill 01 levels.
